description

Pronounced "seh-roost," and historically produced using white lead, this finish comes out of our love of whitewashed or "limed" oak floors. We wanted to offer a similar finish in a furniture application using ash (a wood species that shares qualities with oak).

To create this finish, we start with domestically grown and regionally harvested solid ash. After surfacing the rough sawn lumber, we dye it a warm vintage brown and apply a white-tinted natural oil to highlight the grain patterns and seal the surface for long term protection.

style notes

An overall light to medium brown tone with white contrasting grain patterns, this wood finish pairs well with any of our steel finishes, but we especially like it with gloss white or matte black. Style-wise, think Scandinavian modern.

care

Solid wood will expand and contract based on the humidity level of its environment. A good rule of thumb is to maintain a 40-50% relative humidity level in your home. This finish can be adapted for outdoor use by request, prior to/at checkout. Products sealed with an exterior-grade finish will require regular maintenance (reapplication) according to your specific environmental conditions.

Although very strong, solid wood is susceptible to scratches and marks. Therefore we still recommend protecting the wood as best you can with the use of trivets, coasters, and pads for hot, wet, or coarse items.
